Public sector and federal IT challenges
Public sector agencies require protection against advanced security threats to sensitive and valuable data. Accessing mountains of data at ever-increasing speeds is also critical. Micron memory and storage can help agencies to do both. Our enhanced data security features and capabilities include options like: encryption with no penalty in our SEDs, available TAA-compatible products, FIPS 140-3 Level 2 validation, and more. Micron can help public sector and federal agencies use memory and storage to meet their regulatory, security and compliance needs.
IT federal procurement FAQ
-
Can Micron’s memory and NAND storage solutions be purchased by federal procurement?
We do not list our solutions directly, but Micron DRAM and SSDs are offered by many authorized partners, distributors and system builders via their listings on the federal government’s General Services Administration (GSA) schedule.
-
Does Micron manufacture its storage to be TAA compliant?
Yes, Micron offers TAA-compatible SSDs, meaning that their manufacture or substantial transformation was performed in the USA or in a TAA-designated country. Also, Micron is the only U.S.-based manufacturer of memory solutions and one of the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturers. Micron memory (SDRAM, DIMM, etc.) is also often included in TAA-compatible GSA listings for servers and PCs by our partners and system builders.
-
Are there simplified methods for federal procurement?
Yes, Micron memory and storage can be purchased as separate GSA-scheduled components or embedded into leading partners’ multiple award schedules (MAS).
-
Does Micron have a compliance practice that aligns with federal oversight of vendors?
Yes, Micron makes every effort to stay abreast of and comply with U.S. government regulations and security requirements (i.e., FAR/DFAR, NIST SP 800-171, FIPS, etc.). However, these regulatory and security compliance requirements change constantly (e.g., CMMC), and at an accelerated rate to respond appropriately to threats and the environment. Please reach out to your Micron sales account team to discuss how Micron can help your customers meet regulatory, security and compliance needs.

What federal acronyms are useful for memory and storage technology?
Micron speaks your language. We know the federal/public sector vertical:
EAR: Export Administration Regulations; Micron has products approved for use.
DFARS: Defense Federal Acquisition Requirements Supplement; Micron has products approved for use.
FIPS: Federal Information Processing Standards; Micron products comply with new, stringent FIPS 140-3 Level 2.
GSA: General Services Administration, an agency of the United States government that is responsible for creating contracts between the private sector and government agencies. GSA Schedules list millions of vendor products, solutions and services for simplified acquisition by government agencies at fair market prices.
ITAR: International Traffic in Arms Regulations; Micron has products approved for use.
MAS: multiple award schedule, part of the GSA schedule where, for easier procurement, offerings are consolidated (to include multiple vendors) and organized by large category, subcategory and Special Item Number. Micron products are listed in the MAS of many of our partners.
NIST: National Institute of Science and Technology; data security standards that Micron follows.
TAA: Trade Agreements Act; for federal procurement, all products listed on the GSA Schedule Contract must be TAA compatible. Micron has products that are TAA compatible, meaning they are manufactured or substantially transformed only in the USA or in a TAA-designated country

1Micron 7450 SSD performance measured under the following conditions: Steady state as defined by SNIA Solid State Storage Performance Test Specification Enterprise v1.1; drive write cache enabled; NVMe power state 0; sequential workloads measured using FIO with a queue depth of 32; random READ workloads measured using FIO with a queue depth of 256 (1,000,000 IOPS statement based on 4K sector size; random WRITE workloads measured using FIO with a queue depth of 128; E1.S measured in 20W slot. 1 million IOPS value measured using 4K sector size.
2LRDIMM (load-reduced dual inline memory module) memory chips feature a memory buffer instead of a register, which allows them to increase the speed of the memory and reduce the load on a server's memory bus while it helps to reduce power consumption.
3Micron 3400 SSD offers 25% lower idle power than the prior generation of NVMe client SSDs. It is listed on the Intel® Modern Standby Partner Portal Platform Component List and meets the open labs’ SSD test requirements of Intel’s Project Athena because of its power efficiency.
4Crucial P5 Plus SSD typical I/O performance numbers as measured using CrystalDiskMark® with a queue depth of 128 and write cache enabled. Fresh out-of-box (FOB) state is assumed. For performance measurement purposes, the SSD may be restored to FOB state using the secure erase command. System variations will affect measured results. When installed in a Gen3 system, typical read/write speeds are 3300/2700MB/s.
5SSD speed comparison between Crucial P3 Plus NVMe SSD read speeds of 5000MB/s and Crucial MX500 SATA SSD read speeds of 560MB/s.
6SSD speed comparison between published Crucial P3 NVMe SSD read/write speeds up to 3500/3000MB/s and published Crucial MX500 SATA SSD read/write speeds of 560/510MB/s; SSD vs. HDD speed comparisons between published Crucial P3 NVMe SSD read/write speeds of up to 3500/3000MB/s and top preset consumer hard disk drive read/write speeds of 7200RPM (~156MB/s). Some of the storage capacity of the Crucial P3 SSD is used for formatting and other purposes and is not available for data storage. 1GB equals 1 billion bytes. Not all capacities available at initial launch.
